Inspired by the titular character of Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi, this portrait captures the enigmatic blend of strength and innocence that defines the novel’s protagonist. Set in a labyrinth of endless halls and stormy seas, Piranesi is both a scholar and a solitary wanderer, deeply connected to the mysterious, ever-changing world around him. The dark green background evokes the tempestuous and brooding seas of the novel, grounding the figure in the story’s atmospheric setting.

Rendered in oil on a primed archival wooden panel, the painting intentionally reveals portions of the underpainting and the raw surface of the panel. These unfinished elements mirror the character’s search for understanding and his profound connection to the natural and spiritual realms. The figure’s strong, chiseled features are softened by an upward gaze that conveys wonder, resilience, and an almost meditative calm.

"Piranesi" is an evocative exploration of identity and solitude, blending meticulous realism with a raw, expressive technique. This powerful and literary-inspired piece will captivate viewers, inviting them to reflect on the dualities of strength and vulnerability, knowledge and mystery.
